Estate Mediation can be an off-ramp from the Estate Litigation Expressway.  Stretching from Inheritance Pass to Rancorville, The Estate Litigation Expressway has led more than a few families to breakdown after breakdown.  Awareness of the option to bring in a neutral mediator can save an estate money, and a family – relationships.  A court may order mediation.  Or either party can propose it.  A willingness to work through areas of discord in a contentious estate will be music to a probate judge’s ears, who is likely seeking to clear a docket, and move your case off his or her desk.

Trust Me is the Podcast of the Trusts and Estates Section of the California Lawyers Association.  It is hosted by Kristin Yokomoto, member of the California Lawyer Association’s Trusts and Estates Section.  She is a Partner at Baker & Hostetler LLP in Costa Mesa, CA.  Ms. Yokomoto’s practice focuses on tax and estate planning, trust administration, and probate.

The Guest of this segment of the CLA Trust Me Podcast is Bette Epstein, a mediator, arbitrator, and referee, with ADR Services.  Following a career as a trust and estate litigator, she refocused on alternative dispute resolution and has been helping parties settle their disputes since 2000  Ms. Epstein mediates disputes virtually throughout California.
