Project Fresh Start collects gently used or new household goods and redistributes them at no cost to people establishing homes after hardship or homelessness. Accepted categories include bedding, towels, curtains, rugs, furniture, couches and chairs, tables, bed frames, clean mattresses, dressers, small kitchen appliances, dishes, cookware, and clean children’s toys and books. Donation drop-off is coordinated in advance rather than left outside the Augusta facility.

The organization does not accept large heavy items such as china cabinets, sleep sofas and full-size appliances, old electronics, stained mattresses or pillows, or office equipment. Its direct-redistribution model can be particularly useful when an estate contains practical household furnishings in clean, usable condition that can help another household get established. Save a trip! Call Project Fresh Start first to confirm hours and that they are accepting what you’re bringing.
