About the Organization & Community Impact
Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County ReStore is part of Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore model, in which donated furniture, appliances, building materials and household goods are sold to the public and the proceeds support Habitat’s affordable-housing mission. ReStores are operated by local Habitat affiliates, so revenue helps fund home construction, rehabilitation or repair work and other housing efforts in the communities those affiliates serve. The model also has a significant reuse benefit: saleable materials are kept out of landfills and made available to homeowners, renters and do-it-yourself shoppers at below-retail prices. For estate donors, that creates a particularly practical outlet for bulky household items and home-improvement materials that many clothing-focused charities cannot accept. A qualifying donation can therefore support affordable housing, household affordability and waste reduction at the same time.
